Invite whatever is happening into the dance

When I had an office in the redwood forest, various animals would show up during sessions. A lizard crawled out from under the couch as a client told me that her grandmother was once famous as a witch in South America. A caught it and released it outside, as we talked about magic. Another client and I were exploring suppressed rage and how it impacted his leadership, when a spider crawled onto the mat where he was lying. I blew it aside and it swung in a spiral and wound up back on the table, reminding us of the cyclical nature of things. I remember working with someone around an old trauma (about hiding from the world after being bullied as a child), when a bluejay hit the window and died. We went out and buried him, and mourned a loss of innocence. Once, as I was sitting and expounding on my personal experience of rapture, a hummingbird came up to the window, inches from my head, and started licking the glass. We laughed heartily. Was our nectar flowing then? A handful of times I've elicited tears from clients who hadn't cried in years, and just then the rain started battering the roof. Who's crying for whom?

If these types of things occurred as we went about our day, we might not notice them at all. Or maybe we'd cast a glance and shrug and 'put them away' for future processing.

Any moment is an opportunity to heighten perception, which enhances consciousness, and 'raises the level of being.'

The implications...

If these occurrences are not accidents (and we're in the company of the likes of Carl Jung in this thought experiment)... if moving energy in a human system manifests as a shift in the external elements; in nature itself... consider how delicately the whole system is orchestrated. How intimately connected it (and we) is (and are). Perhaps separateness itself is the illusion.

"The unnamable is the eternally real.
Naming is the origin
of all particular things.

Free from desire, you realize the mystery.
Caught in desire, you see only the manifestations.

Yet mystery and manifestations
arise from the same source.
This source is called darkness.

Darkness within darkness.
The gateway to all understanding."
Tao Te Ching (Steven Mitchell translation)

We read  about synchronicity or the connected-ness of all things, but until you experience it viscerally, it isn't real. In fact, reading about something too much gives us the illusion of knowledge, and can actually be detrimental to embodying a concept or experiencing it (true knowing).

If a fire engine goes wailing by during a meeting (or a walk, or a meditation, or a meal), or the wind chime sings, or a fierce storm kicks in, that means something. We can invite that into the dance (instead of seeing it as some sort of interruption).

It's life flowing. Life can't interrupt itself.

Embracing whatever comes enhances present moment awareness, and life unfolds to reveal a deeper layer. Guaranteed.

Continue to deepen your practice. Let the shift in your patterns be so fundamental... so profound, that a cloud of butterflies rises up from the field, or a white owl swoops by in broad daylight, or clouds blanket the desert.

In Truth,

Steven Budden
